Frequently Asked Questions
What is Collab?
All organizations have their own ‘operating systems’ for communication, but they often are simply not consciously designed to maximize productivity, collaboration, and innovation.
Communication systems that aren’t designed with this flow in mind can be fractured, inconsistent, and unproductive. This can leave key team members in the dark and cause frustrating bottlenecks in an organization.
Collab is the operating system that we’ve developed in response to these problems. It’s a system that delivers power and action in collaboration.
More than that, Collab is a reaction to a worldwide problem. We believe that unskillful use and distribution of power is what lies at the heart of our many global crises. From wealth inequality to racial disharmony to climate change, our collective lack of traction in responding to these issues has a common theme: power.
That’s why Collab focuses on what power is, how it’s used, and how it can be distributed to create a better world.
Collab simplifies complex and difficult structures into a simple, comprehensive map that can bring effectiveness, impact, and joy to your organization.
Even better, Collab fits in place with your own already-existing communication systems, so you don’t have to tear anything down to keep creating!
How much of a time commitment is the course?
Collab 101 contains 8 lessons that you can work through at your own pace. Technically, you can binge watch all 8 lessons in one day! However, we recommend watching one a week and implementing the practices and suggestions throughout the week so that you can incrementally build upon your collaborative leadership skills and practices. You’ll have the opportunity to share your experiences and ask questions in the course platform forums.
Will there be an opportunity to ask questions and get support from the instructors?
Absolutely! We’ll have forums available for you to post any questions, comments, struggles, or success stories to both the instructors and the other participants. Other participants will have a chance to respond to posts in the forums. The instructors will also be monitoring the forum to provide extra support throughout the course. We will be providing live support calls throughout the course as well for added guidance. In addition, course participants can email the course instructors their questions.
What if I cannot afford the course?
We can offer a monthly payment plans. If you are a low income Vermont resident, you can apply for a VSAC non-degree grant to help with the cost. If you are not eligible for the VSAC grant, we have a small amount of scholarships available.
Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if any of these pathways would make this more feasible for you.
Can I participate in more than one of your offerings or will there be too much overlap?
You can take advantage of as many offerings as you see appropriate. We have shaped Collab 101 to give the basic steps to collaborative leadership along with the communication and decision making process tools. The lessons will be designed for you to be able to implement the tools and practices in your leadership and work.
However, you may benefit from the customized support of coaching or trainings to maximize your understanding and ability to use these practices in your life, work, and teams. Collab 101 is a great place to start.
How do I know that this course is right for me and my work?
